The countdown has begun for the international congress of IBBY – International Board on Books for Young People, which will take place from August 30 to September 1, marking an important recognition for the city of Trieste and for Friuli Venezia Giulia as a whole.
The region has a special connection with books for young children; for instance, Nicoletta Costa—with her well-known characters, from Giulio Coniglio to Nuvola Olga—is just one of the Triestine authors dedicated to children’s literature, alongside writers like Corrado Premuda and Susanna Tamaro.
But the connection between the region and literature for young readers doesn’t stop there: there are many initiatives dedicated to promoting reading, such as the project Leggiamo 0-18. Additionally, a noteworthy initiative is the ARLeF – Regional Agency for the Friulian Language, which supports the learning of the Friulian language through reading, in collaboration with several publishers specializing in children’s books.
