17 July 2023The redevelopment project of the Old Port of Trieste, named “Porto Vivo,” has reached a significant milestone with the signing of the validation protocol for the executive project, aimed at renovating the central avenue of the ancient harbor. This avenue serves as the main axis of the project and will be dedicated to pedestrian and cycling paths, rows of trees, and flower beds. The municipal administration aims to transform the entire area by 2026, as mandated by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
The project, valued at nearly 20 million euros, includes the creation of extensive pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, the incorporation of trees along the route, and a new lighting system. The historic railway tracks will also be restored, preserving the beauty of the warehouses that overlook the avenue. Additionally, all necessary utilities such as water, sewage, and electricity, as well as technological service backbones, will be implemented.
The preliminary and executive design of the project has been managed by the Municipality of Trieste with the support of AcegasApsAmga and Hera Luce for technological services, to initiate a new phase of urban redevelopment for the Old Port. This transformation aims to turn a degraded area into a distinguished urban neighborhood in the central Mediterranean, with the Trieste Convention Center serving as its centerpiece.
