The events glossary: the congress
18 March 2024Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region for young readers
21 August 2024Josef Ressel, born in Bohemia to a German father and a Czech mother, lived for thirty years between Istria and Trieste, a city whose cosmopolitan spirit and intellectual liveliness he perfectly embodied. His name is inextricably linked to the propeller patent (1826), the result of his studies to speed up naval transport. His eclectic interests, however, did not stop at the sea, so much so that he also patented pneumatic mail – a system for sending small objects via tubes, pumps and compressed air – and cylindrical bearings.
Ressel is therefore an all-round inventor who contributed a lot to science and technology, but perhaps not everyone knows that he was also a great enthusiast and scholar of forests, so much so that he was involved in the reforestation of the eastern Alps and the Trieste Karst, where today, it is no coincidence that a path on the border between Italy and Slovenia is dedicated to him. Furthermore, in March 2022, a statue dedicated to him created by the sculptor Giorgio Delben was inaugurated on the Trieste seafront, near the Port Authority.
The 110-seat room of the same name located in Warehouse 27 of the Generali Convention Center Trieste is also named after Josef Ressel, ideal for small-to-medium sized events, corporate meetings and training courses. Directly accessible from the Illy Foyer, with the possibility of using the cafeteria and a versatile space, the Ressel Room is versatile and easily accessible from all points of the conference centre, thanks also to the glass bridge that connects Warehouse 27 with Warehouse 28.
