Porto Vecchio of Trieste: A Long History
6 September 2023Pordenonelegge, the main event for book lovers in Friuli Venezia Giulia
13 September 2023Recently, the project ‘Border Train’ has allowed tourists and visitors to travel back in time for a day, rediscovering the regional territory. Following the previous experiment in the Friulian Lowlands and the Lagoon, on August 20th the historic convoy – consisting of four wooden interior carriages from the 1930s – carried around a hundred visitors from Trieste to explore some of the wonders of Friuli Venezia Giulia in an unusual way. The journey included stops in Palmanova – the star-shaped city, with in-depth visits related to the Resistance and 20th-century history – Gradisca d’Isonzo, with its fortress, and Redipuglia with the Shrine. The underlying idea of the Border Train – called in Italian “Treno del Confine”, a project by the Region and the FS Foundation, with the technical and operational support of Promoturismo FVG – is to promote a slow experience with excursions and guided tours. The new route is called ‘Discovering the Green Line and the Emerald River’ and offers a path between the historic center and the natural territory, guided by specialized naturalist guides.
The rediscovery of the regional territory, rich in history, art, and natural attractions, represents a further opportunity for conscious tourism as well as an unusual perspective for visiting Friuli Venezia Giulia, which is increasingly capturing the attention of Italian, European, and international travelers.
