On Tuesday, April 8, Warehouse 28 of the Generali Convention Center hosted the presentation of Agorai Innovation Hub, an ecosystem promoted by Generali Group to create one of the most important centers for applied and fundamental research in Data Science and advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Italy and Europe, as well as a cutting-edge training hub at the European level. The Hub will be housed in Palazzo Carciotti, Generali’s first historic headquarters.

On the stage of the Generali Auditorium throughout the morning, greetings and speeches were delivered by representatives of the authorities—the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Municipality of Trieste and government—followed by contributions from Generali Group CEO Philippe Donnet, Generali Group Chief Financial Officer Cristiano Borean, and representatives of the project’s partners: the Rector of the University of Trieste Roberto Di Lenarda; the Rector of the University of Udine Roberto Pinton; the Director of SISSA Andrea Romanino; the Head of the Dynamic Legged Systems (DLS) laboratory at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) Claudio Semini; the Scientific Director of MIB Trieste School of Management Andrea Tracogna; and the Country Manager of Google Cloud Italy Raffaele Gigantino.

Remote interventions were made by Google Enterprise EMEA President Tara Brady, Deloitte Italy and Central Mediterranean CEO Fabio Pompei, and illycaffè S.p.A. Chairman and Regenerative Society Foundation Co-Chair Andrea Illy. The most technical presentation on stage was given by Francesco Neri, Robotics Research Engineer Lead at Google DeepMind, who demonstrated the potential and applications of artificial intelligence, while architect Carlo Ratti, who is working on the renovation of Palazzo Carciotti, presented his vision for Agorai’s headquarters.

Agorai Innovation Hub is promoted by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Generali, Fincantieri and Fondazione Fincantieri, illycaffè, the University of Trieste, the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), the University of Udine, MIB Trieste School of Management, and the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), with the participation of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). Google Cloud will serve as the Hub’s strategic innovation partner, while Deloitte will support the business side, and Goldman Sachs will act as the research partner for finance and financial markets.
